In my strategic presentation course, I learned a great deal about myself, how to use new technology, and how to work effectively and efficiently in groups. On a personal level, I learned that I am more capable of over-coming challenges that I originally thought. Like many students, I was always afraid to complete assignments without strict guidelines because I always want to make sure that I am fulfilling the professors’ standards. As this class proceeded, I learned that we must rely more on creativity and self-learning than on direction. I taught myself how to use WordPress, Audacity, and Screen-cast-O-matic all in the span of a couple weeks. In reference to using new technology, as mentioned I did not use the listed technology before. I had to adapt to my professor’s teaching style and utilize documents and YouTube videos to figure out how to conquer the challenge of not being the most technically comfortable student. As much as this made me branch out of my comfort zone, I am extremely grateful for the experience. Lastly, learning how to efficiently work in groups was an important take-away for me. I came together with four other students who had technology-based websites to choose a non-profit, create a podcast series, and a final paper all working partly virtual. I was fortunate to have a hard-working group who made sure the final products were to the best of our ability. I am happy that I got to take Strategic Presentation and look forward to future classes within the Digital Communication and Media minor!
